There are common mistakes that most fishkeepers may accidentally do. Buying a mini-aquarium is the first one. Fishkeeping beginners usually buy a single fish or a small number of fishes for a start and with that, they prefer buying small new fish aquarium. So how come it is a mistake for choosing a small one? When water volume is small, the parameters of the water may quickly change which leaves you no room for error. The right thing to do is to stay away from a fish aquarium under 20 gallons. This is better for the bigger the tank, the less impact on your mistake will affect the fish living on it.

Once you buy a new fish, you surely are excited on placing them on their new home. This is what most people do not knowing they are actually making a mistake. If you will observe, those fishes that are quickly placed in the aquarium easily dies. What will be the matter? Because the water in the new fish aquarium is not yet stabilized. Gases, minerals, chemicals, and heavy metals are dissolved in the water which are added by local water treatment facilities. Harmful consituents in the water can harm the fishes inside the aquarium so it is imperative that the water supply is clear and is ready for them to live in. The water should be treated.

Adding too many fishes in the fish aquarium

Adding too many fishes at a time is also considered as a mistake. New fish aquarium is not ready to support a full load of fish until the bacteria colonies has been fully  established. You need to wait until nitrite and ammonia levels have risen and fall to zero before you add some fish in your new fish aquarium.Overfeeding needs to be observed also. You should know the right time when to feed the fish because they can also go bloated just like other creatures. Insufficient filtration also comes to in the list. A new aquarium should be filtered at least 3 times an hour. Filtering should be of average level because under-filtering or over-filtering can affect the fishes either way.Water change is understandable but still, amateur fishkeepers fail to do it. A new fish aquarium should be maintained all the time and the water should be changed in a regular basis. Wastes of these little creatures can fill the water so the water needs to be replaced by another set of freshwater.
